As I Mark This Time A Poem

I thought it was going
To be an early night.
But I got a second wind
Like often happens
When the clock strikes twelve.
It is more a habit
Befitting an owl.
But I have been bestowed it
Like an adopted fowl.

I told a friend
That I had little energy
To stay awake
That was before
The mark of midnight.
I should probably apologize
In the morning
Or tomorrow sometime.

So much on my mind
Again.
The loss of my favorite team.
The lack of concrete
Weekend plans.
My upcoming birthday
That is just another
Marking of time.
That hopefully like midnight
Can give me a spark
Or jumpstart my energy.
Time is a wasting.
My dreams need
To take shape
To see and breathe
And become reality.
Yes all of these things.
Make sleep a failure
And slave to my thinking.

Let's not go all Shakespeare
And employ quotes.
Let's be ourselves
Let's be original.
Sleep is not the enemy.
It is in fact an ally
In the fight for sanity.
This I must repeat.
As I mark this time.
As I mark this day.

A soliloquy of rest is the notion I want to manifest. No sleep/dream/death connection for that is not the end of the day I seek.
