"After all these years"!

About 50 years ago. I was young. Of course I was. I was 7 at that time. There was a girl I grew up with, we was the same age. I was 3 months older. So today, I had this on my mind. "After all these years". At age 7 what do you know about love? But, I guess I was unusual or just a in love.

For at a young age, my eyes adored her! I was a skinny and not most handsomest in the neighborhood. But what the heck, I said my peace, and told her I love her, and we'll be married, she'll smile but never said a word. So after age of 10, I started writing love letters and poetry.

I guess I was a romantic little devil. At the age of 13, we when on a date. She want to the movies with me. I was shy and didn't try to kiss her, and The Beatles songs was on my mind. "I want to hold your hand", but I didn't. The date went well, in my mind, I vision her in my future.

A few months later, I found out she was pregnant, I was sad. So I decide to change my future plans. After high school, I joined the Air Force, Over the years, I heard she had many bad relationships. 8 by different men. I got out military, got married and divorced and had 1 . I stayed in NM.

20 years ago, give or take a few years, I was going to visit my family in VA. My mom call me a day before and told me, my childhood crush moms, want me to take her back to NM with me and we can start a life together. "After all these years". I was willing to take the offer.

I come home to visit, my mom call her and she came by. I was so happy! "After all these years". We talked, but she didn't say much, I ask her how things, and she didn't give me any eye contact. I said, WOW! So after a while, she left and we hugged. My mom came downstairs with a smile on her face.

She said, in a happy voice. "Are you and Cathy, going to be an item??? I look my mom in the face and said "NO"! My mom say why? I told her, "I'm still not what she's looking for , "After all these years"! For some reason, tears came from my eyes.

nice story... i think most of us have one of those.
that is why i say the past is best left in the past... and when we revisit the past, we are reminded of why we left in it the past

"Today was an unusual day, for I had something on my mind. "After all these years"!"
yup sometimes i think of the love i left behind... but i never ran back to visit her
and thanks you just made me think of her

there is a world of difference between insanity and stupidity

Yep.. I've got one of those, in my pocket and I can't figure her out either. After 10 years or so... I gave up. But.... every once in a while... I still think about her.
Yeah.. I know where you're coming from. 😶
